Goals
Understanding of service and manufacturing operations management concepts and methods in a supply chain context.
Ability to work with the basic methods and (IT) tools of operations management.
Description
This course addresses the basic operational processes in manufacturing and logistics which together form the primary processes of the supply chain. It will address operational issues in transportation (routing, loading, modal choices), warehousing (order processing, design, value added logistics), manufacturing (TQM, planning). The course will give detailed attention to the operational processes, but also to (quantitative) tools as they are available to measure, define and improve the processes. This course lays the foundation for all subsequent supply chain related programme content. This course addresses issues in running and optimizing processes, which mostly take place within a company in the supply chain.
Literature
Literature will consist of recent research articles as well as case studies that will be made available. A list of textbooks on Operations Management is given in the block book for additional reading/basic concepts.
Prerequisites
Basic statistics/mathematics.
Basic operations management / supply chain management.
