Goals
Internet Economics introduces the economics of network industries and explores issues arising in real-life Internet and technology-based cases.
Description
The aim of this course is twofold. First, the course provides a general foundation of the network-economic theory that forms much of the basis for the economic analysis of information technologies in general and the Internet in particular. Second, the course reviews several real-life cases and discusses the relevant economic aspects of these cases. Course topics include:
1) The hardware and the software industries
2) The creation of industry standards and technological adoption
3) Information goods and intellectual property
4) The allocation of wireless telecommunications spectrum
5) Pricing strategies on the internet

Additionally some papers are contained in the course literature.
Prerequisites
This course starts from the fundamentals of microeconomics that have been handed to you earlier in your studies in the first and second year Microeconomics courses. That is, it presumes a working knowledge of microeconomic theory.
Exchange students need to major in economics.
