Goals
This Leadership course has the following goals:
1. To introduce students to the complexity of today’s leadership challenges.
2. To familiarise students with theories and empirical research on leadership.
3. To enable students to handle the diagnosis and analysis of leadership issues and to use this knowledge for the suggestion, comparison and evaluation of problem solutions.
4. To develop students’ reflective awareness with respect to their own values, assumptions, expectations and beliefs regarding leadership and to increase their ability to analyse and transform their own leadership behaviour.
Description
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT METHOD(S) USED IN THIS COURSE IS WITH RESERVATION. THE INFORMATION PROVIDED HERE IS BASED ON THE COURSE SETUP PRIOR TO THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS. AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE CRISIS, COURSE COORDINATORS MAY BE FORCED TO CHANGE THE TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT METHODS USED. THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEACHING/ASSESSMENT METHOD(S) WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE COURSE SYLLABUS. This course will introduce you to the world of leadership in different ways. You will explore the topic through the academic lens by studying past and current theoretical perspectives and empirical research. In addition you will be asked to reflect on the practical implications of theories and research thereby taking into account the complexity of today’s leadership challenges. Finally, a personal development perspective on leadership is introduced by reflective practice regarding your own leadership behaviour.

Prerequisites
Courses and workload are very demanding for all IB Master courses. Exchange students need to have obtained a bachelor degree with a major in Business. Exchange students need to major in organisation in their Master.

An advanced level of English is required.

Please note, next to the final paper, students will be assessed by means of assignments/papers during the course, too.
