Goals
Institutional investors like insurance companies, mutual- and pension funds account for more than 75% of all assets on financial markets. In this course students will learn how institutional investors are organized and how they invest on behalf of their clients.
Description
The course studies the strategy, organization and investment process of institutional investors. Among others we cover strategic asset allocation, responsible investing and alternative investments like for instance private equity, real estate, infrastructure and hedge funds. After studying the relevant literature we focus on the practical (real-life) application of these concepts to the largest category of institutional investors; pension funds.

This course is in transition for the:

TRANSITIONAL REGULATION (EBC4054):
The master Business Research has been discontinued.
Courses of the Business Research master’s programme will continue to be offered until and including academic year 2025-2026 with exam opportunities running until and including 2026-2027.

The following rule applies to master Fiscal Economics students who started the programme prior to academic year 2024-2025.
TRANSITIONAL REGULATION (EBC4054):
The master Fiscal Economics has been discontinued.
Courses of the Fiscal Economics master’s programme will continue to be offered until and including academic year 2024-2025 with exam opportunities running until and including 2025-2026.

The following rule applies to master International Business - Sustainable Finance students who started the programme prior to academic year 2024-2025.
TRANSITIONAL REGULATION (EBC4054):
In 2024-2025 students are allowed to repeat the course, including the examination and resit.


PREREQUISITES:
* Exchange students need to have obtained a Bachelor degree in business.
* Exchange students need to major in finance in their Master.
* An advanced level of English is necessary.

Note that courses and workload are very demanding for all master International Business courses.
