Supply chain metrics provide a basis for decision-making towards improving supply chain performance. They also facilitate communication, provide feedback and motivate chain members. However, using the right performance metrics is essential. This course is about developing, assessing, implementing and using metrics that help decision makers achieve visibility and control over supply chain relevant processes. Given the complexity of contemporary firm networks, this means going beyond performance indicators that only target individual organizations and towards the formulation of metrics at the level of the entire supply chain. The following issues are addressed: (1) The relevance of performance metrics for supply chain strategies and for supply chain performance (2) The different categories of performance metrics available to supply chain managers (3) The aspects to consider when developing metrics (4) metrics for resilience, quality and sustainability in supply chains.
