Goals
* Students gain an overall awareness of responsibility in algorithmic and data-driven decision-making.
* Students understand the philosophy and ethics of digital technologies.
* Students recognize and reflect on ethical difficulties related to data usage as well as (implementation of) recommendations suggested by economic analysis and theoretical models.
Description
This course introduces students to ethical, social and practical responsibilities involved in algorithmic and data-driven decision-making in the fields of Econometrics, Operations Research and Mathematical Economics. Key elements of responsible econometrics involve data privacy and protection, the ethics of letting algorithms make decisions and the responsible use of modern technologies. The course brings all these elements together in the context of the current and future technological developments.
