Goals
Description
This course focusses on the European economic environment in which businesses operate. We start with the arguments for European economic integration and discuss the developments from a free trade area toward a monetary union and their consequences. We will also discuss recent developments like the banking union and further fiscal integration. Then we focus on the relation between Europe, the US and China as the 3 big players in the world economy. What are the strengths and the weaknesses of these players? What developments can be predicted? We will conclude that innovation and labour market flexibility are key for the long run development for Europe to be a competitor in the world economy. Therefore we will discuss innovation policies and labour market policies in Europe as well.
