Students learn to formally analyze collective decision rules on the basis of normative properties arising from fairness and robustness considerations.

Description |
In this theoretical course, we analyze different models for collective decision problems following the axiomatic approach. This means that we define collective decision rules (voting rules, scoring rules, allocation rules), formulate some appropriate properties for these rules, and study their implications. These properties reflect desirable fairness or robustness principles, such as anonymity, efficiency, neutrality, stability, monotonicity, consistency, and strategy-proofness. Topics that we cover include: * elections * location problems * bankruptcy problems * bargaining problems * cooperative games

Prerequisites |
A mathematic level comparable to a BSc Econometrics & Operations Research meets the prerequisites.
Exchange students need to have obtained a Bachelor degree and an advanced level in mathematics. An advanced level of English. |
